Cox's Bazar, June 4 (bdnews24.com)—At least 20 people have been injured in a clash between the supporters of two Union Parishad (UP) chairman candidates at Razar Beel in Chakaria Upazila.

Chakaria police chief Mohammad Farhad told bdnews24.com at least 20 gunshots had also been exchanged during the pre-election violence on Friday evening.

Former state minister for communications and BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed was held hostage for about an hour by the supporters of Awami League-backed candidate Giasuddin Cowdhury, a BNP allegation denied by the police.

Ahmed was attending an election campaign of BNP-backed candidate Azizul Haque Chowdhury.

The clash took place when the rival candidates along with their supporters became face-to-face at Razar Beel during electioneering.
